Our journey began in 2014 when I, an active duty US Soldier stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, alongside my wife, developed a passion for high-quality coffee. Dissatisfied with many commercial brands, we embarked on a mission to bring exceptional coffee to our fellow coffee enthusiasts. With a military background and a strong drive for excellence, we set out to create a unique coffee experience that would cater to the discerning palates of our customers.
To achieve our vision, we delved deep into the coffee industry, immersing ourselves in research, education, and hands-on training. We sought guidance from a family friend who owned a mobile coffee business in Hanover, Germany. His mobile platform, operating without electricity, served some of the best coffees in the local farmer’s market. Inspired by his success, we incorporated the idea of mobility into our brand, and Richies Mobile Café was born.
Our commitment to delivering the finest coffee led us to explore various roasters and blends. After extensive tasting sessions and visits to different roasters, we discovered a local roaster in Frankfurt, Germany. Its strong and flavorful coffee perfectly matched the preferences of our most extensive customer base—the US Soldiers and Civilians working on the US Military Base in Wiesbaden. We understood their need for a robust and satisfying brew, and Richies Mobile Café rose to the occasion.
In our early days, we started with a distinctive red three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, customized with a box on the back. Inside, we installed a professional semi-automatic Fierenzato Ducale two-group coffee machine, which became the heart of our operation. This state-of-the-art equipment allowed us to serve the perfect cup of coffee at local events, including weddings, markets, and even the prestigious international Frankfurt auto show in 2015. We were honored to be chosen to run the coffee station for the German Minister’s Transportation display. Our exceptional coffee and professionalism impressed the attendees, but our popularity soared to new heights when customers flocked to our station, causing disruptions to the Minister’s presentation. The demand for our coffee was undeniable, and we realized we had something extraordinary.
Since we incepted our business in the spring of 2015, we have made significant strides. We upgraded our coffee shop from the three-wheeled Piaggio Ape to a fully functional mobile coffee shop trailer tailored to meet the needs of the US Military Garrison in Germany. This expansion allowed us to serve our valued customers more efficiently and conveniently while maintaining the same dedication to quality and taste.
One aspect that sets Richies Mobile Café apart is our unique approach to naming our drinks. We pay homage to our military and government backgrounds by giving each beverage a name inspired by these themes. From the robust “Abrams” to the mysterious “Top Secret,” our menu offers a selection of intriguing choices that reflect our heritage.
